Ready…Set…Wait For It

by John Weckerle

It’s almost here – the Annual Music Festival at Wildlife West Nature Park, this Friday through Sunday.  Featuring a Barn Dance Friday night and 22 shows on two stages over two days, this is the East West Mountains/Estancia Valley’s biggest music event of the year.  This year’s headliner – internationally renowned folk musician John McCutcheon – is joined by nationally recognized bands The Badly Bent and Dave Firestine & Round The House, as well as the cowboy and Western stylings of Syd Masters and other bands of statewide renown.  More information can be found on the Wildlife West music festival page, and of course tickets can be purchased online.  The lucky winner of Sunday’s fiddle contest will receive a violin donated by Encore Music.

This year, the Town of Edgewood is holding its celebration concurrently, on Saturday, August 8.  Events include a parade, fun run, live bands, great food, and a business expo.  Events will be held around the town, and there will be tenth anniversary cake, reptiles, Adopt-A-Pet, and Library Buy-A-Book.  Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m. at Rich Ford.  For more information, contact the Edgewood Chamber at 505-286-2577.

  1. Thanks for the good coverage – not just for WW Music but also for RR&R/Town 10th – more thanks for helping me bridge the information gaps. Just what I need for my Mtair blogs. The Mtair chamber has an information free listing on its calendar.

I have been following John McCutcheon’s music for over 20 years, first when I lived in Maryland, and now, delightedly, here. Yesterday, two good sets and a fine workshop. Unfortunately, the main stage sound system was miserable, garbling his clear, sharp voice to near-unintelligibility, with added acoustic feedback through the low strings of his hammer dulcimer. That which I could make out was wonderful.

As an Edgewoodian of some 24 years, I’m happy you came and enjoyed Mr. McCutcheon. I haven’t spoke to anyone that doesn’t enjoy him immensely. That’s why I hope you will email Roger Alink, the chief cook and bottle washer at WLW, and let him know your feelings. I know that Roger and Richard Eager (festival promoter) work hard to do the job right, but circumstances (?) might have impinged on their efforts.
