Meteor Sighting

by John Weckerle

Just a few minutes ago, I observed a spectacular meteor  moving in a southwest to northeast direction – more or less – and we’re wondering whether anyone else has observed it and has any information.  Based on the angle and the apparent velocity, it would appear that the meteor made it relatively deeply into the atmosphere – and it faded out while still in the western portion of the sky.  We have not yet found any references to the event online, but would welcome any information from our readers; it was – again – a spectacular sight, and I hope that others in our area enjoyed the show as much as I did.

I Saw a Fireball in the western sky heading northeast yesterday evening about 8:30 PM or maybe a lil sooner. I instantly knew it was a meteor burning up in the atmosphere.. i suspect the object was large enough ( based on the brightness of flames) To have made it to the ground , perhaps a 1/4 inch after the burn .. Someone look for it! I would venture to say its somewhere in Pecos!

Well, I’m excited to have seen it, glad somebody else did, and really happy that we have at least one reader in the Phoenix area! From here, it originated in the southwest part of the sky and probably made it to the western portion before it went out. Spectacular!

I saw it too. Was taking a walk a little past seven o’clock when I looked up and saw it. I live in south Phoenix along the Gila reservation. It was beautiful!
