Edgewood Town Council Meeting Canceled
by John Weckerle
Those interested in such issues as the Edgewood budget, scheduled public hearings, and other Town-related issues should be aware that tomorrow night’s Town Council meeting has been canceled. According to an e-mail message from Estefanie Muller, Edgewood’s Town Clerk, “the June 3rd meeting has been canceled due to lack of a quorum. The next regularly scheduled meeting is June 17th at 6:30 p.m. at the Edgewood Community Center.” It is unclear whether items on the June 3rd agenda will be carried through to the next meeting.
Lack of a quorum? I just wonder who couldn’t (or did not want to) show up.
Too bad that the meeting will not take place I would really like to have heard how the stimulous requests for Edgewood are progressing.
One does have to wonder how it came to pass that, at this time of year when budget issues are coming to a head, and when there are other important issues on the agenda, the Town Council was unable to establish a quorum. I would have anticipated that the Mayor and all the Council members would have known their vacation/travel schedules at the time of the last meeting. Perhaps some unforeseen commitments arose for one or more of the Council members. I should hope that it isn’t an issue of people not wanting to show up or avoiding difficult issues.
I want to apologize to anyone who was adversely affected by my not being able to attend the June 3rd Council Meeting. I had scheduled time away with my family and because of business commitments this was the only time I could do this. I was unaware that Councilor Felton would also be absent. Please remember that council members serve without any compensation, yet we make every effort to meet our extensive time commitment to the office. I assure you I did not want to miss any agenda item and am relieved that all items will be on the next meeting agenda. I believe that this was only the second meeting I have missed in my three years on the Council. Again my apologies to the citizens of Edgewood and affected parties. Brad Hill, Council Member
My absence was for a family vacation and was scheduled about a month in advance of the June 3 meeting. In my experience, absences from council are more likely to occur in the summer, when school is out and families can spend some time together. Mr. Steiner’s negative conjecture is unfounded. I’m confident that all of the business on the 6/3 agenda will be attended to expeditiously.
While I don’t make it to as many Town Council meetings as I once did, it has generally been my impression that the Councilors are fairly diligent with respect to attendance. We appreciate that Councilors Hill and Felton took the time to put the issue to bed.
